Arrangements for Dealing With Items on Repeat Prescription

What is a repeat prescription?

A repeat prescription is an item which has been agreed by the doctor for long-term dispensing and will appear on the counterfoil of prescriptions. Please keep your counterfoil in a safe place ready for your next prescription request.

Any items of medication required which do not appear on this counterfoil must be requested from the doctor at a consultation or in writing to eliminate any possibility of error that might occur if messages are given over the telephone to reception staff. This is for the safety of our patients.

Items on repeat prescription which have not been requested for a significant period of time may be deleted from your repeat prescription record in the interests of safety.

How do I request a repeat prescription?

In order to request a repeat prescription, please hand in your prescription counterfoil or send it to the Medical Centre and indicate clearly the specific items you require. Please inform us whether the prescription is to be collected from the Medical Centre or sent to a local pharmacist, stating which pharmacy is most convenient for you at each request.

The prescription counterfoil may be handed in directly to your local pharmacy if that is more convenient for you.

Alternatively, repeat prescriptions may be requested by telephone (451 3010) between the hours of 10:00 and 16:00 Monday to Friday or they may be requested by fax (451 3503).

How do I collect my prescriptions?

Prescriptions may be collected by:

the patient or patient’s representative, or

returned to the patient via stamped addressed envelope (SAE is an envelope with the sender's name and address on it, plus affixed paid postage, that is mailed to us so we can return your prescription to you) supplied by the patient, or

sent to a specific local pharmacist by arrangement between the patient and that pharmacist.

Medication Reviews
